A knit cardigan crafted using a manual flat knitting machine, commonly known as a "te-yoko."
Development and manufacturing are handled by a long-established textile trading company that produces 20,000 to 30,000 knit garments annually.
A "te-yoko" is a machine where the knitter manually moves the carriage back and forth to knit row by row. While manufacturing with these machines increased alongside the expansion of Japan's knit industry after the war, they have become rare in modern domestic mass production due to the time and human labor required, as well as the widespread adoption of industrial knitting machines.
The team of knitters ranges in age from their 30s to their 70s, with experienced artisans in their 60s at the core. Achieving precise sizing requires high-level skills and a sense developed over many years. It takes approximately 20 hours to complete a single garment.
We use a hand-spun style woolen roving yarn that combines the rich volume characteristic of British down-breed sheep wool with the softness of Merino wool. The Beige color allows you to appreciate the natural warmth and depth of the yarn itself.
When worn with the collar laid flat, it takes on the appearance of a coach jacket. The neckline can also be buttoned up, allowing you to change the look depending on your outfit or the temperature.
This piece balances the relaxed comfort of a cardigan with the tailored aesthetic of a jacket. You can feel the unique soft texture of hand-knitting and the warmth of craftsmanship.

All MARK.S products are sewn in Japan. While some items may incorporate vintage, deadstock, or hand-woven fabrics from overseas, the sewing—which forms the foundation of our manufacturing—is consistently carried out in Japan.

Historic fabrics, rags (boro), and vintage garments that have been loved for a long time possess a beauty that words alone cannot convey. The craftsmanship of MARK.S began with the pursuit of these deeply personal and intimate sensations born between clothing and the wearer.
The designer personally collects hand-woven and hand-spun fabrics from around the world, as well as antique and deadstock materials that have been left unused. Focusing on natural materials, we produce small quantities domestically, making the most of the unique expressions and history of each material.
For our mud-dyeing, a tradition passed down in Amami Oshima, we use soil rich in mud, tree bark, and iron content to express colors with depth and fluctuation—shades that can only be born from the nature of that land. Furthermore, depending on the fabric, we use vintage looms that function similarly to hand-weaving machines, weaving the cloth slowly and deliberately over time.
Our values differ from mass production that prioritizes efficiency. We aim to create clothing that does not waste materials, is unaffected by fleeting trends, and evolves with the wearer into the future. Each MARK.S garment bears the traces of the designer's aesthetic and the passage of time.
