MARK.S "Dress Shirt" (TEICHIGI WOOD)
Detail:
MARK.S “Dress Shirt” TEICHIGI–WOOD (Indian Hawthorn)
A dress shirt crafted using GIZA cotton—an Egyptian extra-long staple cotton counted among the world's top three—for both the warp and weft yarns.
The warp features high-density 140-count two-ply yarn with a silk-like luster, while the weft uses a slightly thicker 120-count two-ply yarn. Both are gas-singed during spinning to remove excess fuzz, resulting in a fine, beautiful surface.
A high-density broadcloth that possesses a substantial weight despite its delicate and supple texture. The finished fabric is air-dried and wound while retaining its natural wrinkles, giving it a rich, unforced character. The final garment is washed to achieve a soft texture that conforms to the skin.
This piece is dyed with "Teichigi" (Indian Hawthorn), the same botanical material used in the mud-dyeing process on Amami Oshima Island.
Only the first extraction obtained from boiling the Indian Hawthorn is used. After repeating the dyeing process twelve times, the fabric is mordanted with alum, drawing out the pure, profound color inherent to the wood itself without blending any other dyes.
The dyeing process consists of twelve immersions in Indian Hawthorn.
The depth born from repeated dyeing layered with the subtle luster of GIZA cotton. While retaining the nuances unique to natural dyes, this piece is finished with a quiet presence where elegance and rusticity coexist.
As it is washed and worn repeatedly, it will conform to the wearer's body and the passage of time, evolving into an even richer expression.
*Due to the nature of natural dyeing, there may be slight individual differences in shade and tone. Please enjoy these as unique characteristics born from natural raw materials and handwork.
All MARK.S products are sewn within Japan. While we occasionally use vintage, deadstock, or hand-woven fabrics from overseas, the sewing, which forms the foundation of our craftsmanship, is consistently performed in Japan.

Brand:MARK.S
MARK.S is a brand that values receiving clothing through pure "sensation" rather than understanding it through words or logic.
In an age overflowing with information and explanations, clothing is sometimes discussed through words before one has even touched the physical item. However, there is no need for reasons or criteria of evaluation for the things that truly captivate our hearts.
Fabrics with a storied history, boro textiles, and long-cherished vintage garments possess a beauty that words alone cannot convey. The craftsmanship of MARK.S began with the pursuit of that extremely personal and intimate sensation that arises between clothing and the person who wears it.
The designer personally collects hand-woven and hand-spun fabrics, antique items left unused, and deadstock textiles from all over the world. Focusing on natural materials, we produce items in small batches within Japan, making the most of the character and history inherent in each material.
In the traditional mud-dyeing process of Amami Oshima, the use of mud, tree bark, and iron-rich soil expresses deep, nuanced colors that can only be born from the nature of that land. Furthermore, depending on the fabric, we use vintage looms similar to hand-weaving machines, weaving the cloth slowly over time.
This represents a set of values different from the mass production that prioritizes efficiency. Our goal is to create clothing that does not waste materials, is unaffected by the passage of time, and continues into the future while changing along with the wearer. Every piece from MARK.S is imbued with the designer's aesthetic sense and the traces of time that have accumulated.
The designer's name and background are not made public. This is based on the philosophy that before such information, we want you to first see, touch, and feel the product itself.
The brand name "MARK" signifies a sign, a record, a trace, or a symbol. The "S" is layered with meanings of "Special" and "Supreme."
