Samuel Zelig is a collaboration between Los Angeles-based Jonathan Levite and Melissa Marsella. Jonathan and Melissa, who are both vintage aficionados, express their "Dream Vintage" ideas using modern methods.

All designs, including patches and embroidery, are originals by the designers. Each artwork has a different style, as if the piece has been passed down through generations and customized by its owner.

Film plays an important role in our design process and heavily influences the emotions we want to convey through our work.
For this design group, we took inspiration from some of our favorite movies, including The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Shining, and Eyes Wide Shut.
These films feature ornate, striking interiors and beautifully composed frames.

I was also influenced by the lifestyles of the artists staying at the hotel.
For example, Hotel Chelsea is known as a gathering place for many legendary artists, such as Patti Smith, Robert Mapplethorpe, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, etc. We took inspiration from that and incorporated various elements such as the hotel key, the "Do Not Disturb" sign, the guest log sign, and the hotel's architectural blueprint to represent our own unique hotel.

The fictional hotel's name, St. Denis , comes from the building where our first studio was located, an iconic Los Angeles landmark built in the 1930s.
