Samuel Zelig "Yearbook Collection"
The entire collection of Samuel Zelig's 25SS season, which we have ordered, is now available.
The brand had five themes, but we focused on and selected three from them.
What I found great about this collection were the "Antique" and "Hotel" series that arrived last time.
And now, the "Yearbook" that has just arrived.
First, a comment from the designer.
"Yearbook"
For this SS25 season we wanted to lean more into a natural color palette for this group and asked ourselves, “which vintage garments are naturally like this?”. We found that vintage Reunion or Beer Jackets, and Senior Cords often were fabricated from these lighter tones, and elevated with bright signatures and academic motifs. These pieces are also incredibly rare in the vintage world, so we created our own iteration of these styles through the SZ lens. During our research for this group, we looked through numerous yearbooks from the 1930's - 1950's to decide what would realistically end up on these styles. They were filled with whimsical doodles, inside jokes, and collaged photos. We created our own mascots, crests, (also inspired by our own high school experiences) and a highly detailed yearbook signature page as a focal point for this group.
For SS25, I wanted to steer towards a more natural colour palette for this group and asked myself, "What vintage garments naturally have these colours?"
The results showed vintage Reunion Jackets, Beer Jackets, and Senior Cords in lighter toned fabrics and decorated with vibrant signs and academic motifs.
These pieces are extremely rare on the vintage market, so we decided to reinterpret these styles from SZ's perspective and create our own.
During the research process, we looked at numerous yearbooks (graduation albums) from the 1930s through to the 1950s to get reference for the designs and expressions that were actually used at the time.
It was filled with playful doodles, inside jokes, and photo collages.
We drew inspiration from our own high school memories to create an original mascot, crest, and meticulously illustrated yearbook signature page as a focal point for our group.
Let's start with the T-shirt.
Made from 11 oz cotton jersey
The artwork features a design of a fictional club team called Sycamore Lancer's.
The orange faded Ringer is quite a fresh look.
Made of soft jersey fabric, it's comfortable.
It can be washed thoroughly.
The short-sleeved shirt is released in a new fabric that is different from previous versions.
Their artwork is incorporated into the ikat-patterned fabric.
The fabric is smooth and light to wear, and it looks like it will look very good after washing.
This versatile short-sleeved shirt goes well with anything, including shorts, denim, and military pants.
The coverall-type jacket released last season is being released again this season.
Personally, I think this is a very useful jacket and I have worn both last season's and this season's, but this one is a light-weight one.
The lightweight 8-ounce fabric is perfect for spring and can be worn throughout the year.
Also, since the base color is simple and the artwork is pop, it seems easier to match with other items.
The brand's signature pants.
The length is sleeker than last season's.
The balance is designed to suit the Japanese body type.
It has a slightly thick straight silhouette that matches a variety of tops and has an outstanding presence.
This completes the white tee.
We recommend a style that casually incorporates highly artistic items into a simple look.
Finally, shorts.
They're quite short and have a wide silhouette, but once you put them on you'll be hooked.
It's very comfortable.
In summer, this would be ideal with a Gurank T-shirt and sandals.
By the way, the words Sycamore and Tiburon incorporated into the design are the names of the streets where the brand's studio was located, as well as the street and place names where the designer was born.
We have been selling them for several seasons, and the artwork changes drastically each time, but personally I never get tired of them and they are very collectable.
It seems to strike a good balance between high artistic quality and the relaxed, easygoing feel that is unique to American brands.
The good thing about Samuel Zelig is that his style doesn't fall into the category of American casual.
You can enjoy a variety of items, both second-hand and clean.
If you're interested, please give it a try.
I already bought the jacket and pants and am wearing them all the time.
