MacMahon Knitting Mills — The Charm of Handcraft

MacMahon Knitting Mills — The Charm of Handcraft

Hello.
This is Miyaji from Lakewood Clothing.

The other day, I went to get some postcards made. Since I’m not very tech-savvy, I just brought my logo file and asked, "Could you make some postcards for me that look good using this?"
To which they replied:

"Please bring us a finished file created in something simple like Illustrator."

Since I don’t know how to use Illustrator, I was wondering what to do, so I asked ChatGPT...

It made them for me easily. So convenient!!
I managed to pull it off.

While I feel the convenience of these things daily, I also get the feeling that I am steadily regressing.
(Perhaps it’s just me)

While I admire high-tech things, I am also drawn to—well, maybe not exactly "skilled craftsmanship"—but "things created by human hands."
Slightly uneven stitches, shapes that aren't perfectly uniform.
I think things that bear the mark of the maker’s hand have a unique atmosphere and character all their own.
I also feel that they truly become complete as you wear them in.

The MacMahon Knitting Mills cowichan sweaters I am introducing today are one such item that carries that kind of charm.

They will be available at our shop starting Friday, October 16th. First, here is a look at part of the collection.

A look that hasn't been in recent collections has returned, and it evokes such a great mood.

Once again, as our store theme suggests, I love things that have a folk-art feel and a sense of hand-craftsmanship.
The texture of the knit and the slightly irregular, charming motifs.
The fluctuations unique to hand-work are what make these clothes so appealing.

For items like these, I don’t believe that having high-quality materials and finishes that are perfect down to every last detail is necessarily the goal.
In fact, becoming too refined can sometimes dull the very qualities I’m attracted to.
When things are "too good," it can feel a bit off, in a way.

MacMahon Knitting Mills naturally retains a sense of rusticity and generosity.
They are warm, yet slightly humorous.
The balance—unique to this brand—is just right.

I also love the bespoke items they made for me in the past, and I wear them every year.
Whether it’s ordering this year's pieces, it seems I have a tendency to be very drawn to this brand’s cowichans.

They have elements that recall vintage pieces, yet they can be worn with a modern sensibility.
I think I love that balance—how they feel somewhat nostalgic, yet look fresh when paired with everyday clothes.

They come in one size, but whether worn by a woman or a man, they strangely fall into a perfect balance.
It’s also interesting how the same knit can change its silhouette and atmosphere depending on the person wearing it.

We have received these three models this time.

Cowichan-Dog Sled
Price:¥42,900- (tax in)

For me, with my current fixation on Alaska and Canada, this is the perfect model.
In fact, this is a model I requested they make.
Because of that, I’m extremely fond of it and have decided that this is the one I will wear and break in this year.
It features husky faces knitted on the gray body, facing each other on the left and right sides.

The faces are rendered in black and white, with little red tongues providing a small accent. Thin patterns on the cuffs and hem add a subtle touch of playfulness to the calm color scheme.

The dogs have a certain charm to their expressions; it’s a pattern that makes you fall for it the more you look at it.
It really hits the mark for me right now.
It would look great paired with gray slacks to connect the colors, or worn cleanly with black trousers.

Cowichan-Cowboy
Price:¥44,000- (tax in)

A piece featuring a cowboy swinging a lasso, knitted against a vibrant red base.
The white stars on both sleeves are also striking.

I love how the cowboy figure is expressed in a generous, loose way using limited colors and stitches. The dynamic motif against the red body makes it one that stands out among the three models.

Cowichan-Dance
Price:¥46,200- (tax in)

A piece with two dancing figures knitted onto a gray-brown body.

In addition to the figure motifs using red and yellow, there are red and black lines and musical note patterns on the cuffs and hem.
From the poses of the figures to the musical notes, the entire garment conveys a fun atmosphere.

A calm base color combined with lively patterns.
I feel the rustic charm unique to hand-knitting in this combination as well.

We are stocking these three models this time.
At our store, we would like to suggest pairing these with items like clean-looking slacks or boots-cut/flare silhouette pants.

Doing so highlights the craft feel of the cowichan while keeping the overall impression refined.

Wearing knitwear that recalls vintage pieces with a modern sensibility.
I hope you enjoy that balance.

On sale tomorrow, Friday, October 16th.
The online store is scheduled to launch around 19:00.

Please come by the store, try one on, and feel the unique atmosphere of these cowichans for yourself.

We look forward to your visit.
