BLACKBIRD "Toile Half Coat" (Check)

BLACKBIRD “toile half coat” (Check)
BLACKBIRD's “toile half coat” is a piece that takes the “toile”—the unfinished garment created for fittings—and presents it as a finished product.
In this version, we have incorporated more raw-edge details than ever before to emphasize a simple, unfinished aesthetic. At the same time, the elements that support the garment’s structure—such as the sleeve setting, internal piping, and collar roll—are meticulously crafted.
A rough expression paired with impeccable tailoring. This coexistence of opposing elements is the coat’s most significant feature.
The fabric is a custom wool material produced exclusively for BLACKBIRD.
Based in charcoal, it features a complex plaid pattern with intersecting lines of red, yellow, and green.
It is a check that shifts in impression depending on the viewing distance and the items it is paired with, as multiple colors overlap within the muted ground tone.
The coarse texture unique to Shetland wool and the bulky form that makes the most of the generous fabric volume are also key attractions.
Despite having enough volume to envelop the body, it retains the ease of movement expected from a half coat.
As a shop, we find this item goes with absolutely everything; it is a convenient piece that pulls a look together whenever you are struggling with your outfit.
Since it is worn open, we hope you enjoy the process of choosing inner layers and experimenting with the various genres and items in your wardrobe to create your own unique styling.
-directorʼs monologue-
The toile series, which is becoming synonymous with BLACKBIRD, was first created about eight years ago.
I feel that once people reach a point where they own a certain amount of clothing, they tend to avoid items labeled as "staples."
However, I believe that those who truly love clothing—not just our own—should be the ones looking at the staple items a brand produces.
A staple from a good brand, as I see it, isn't just an entry-level item; it is where a brand’s approach to craftsmanship is most clearly revealed in the finest details.
How does the fabric behave once sewn?
Is the sewing machine speed appropriate? Where does it shrink after washing, and where does it distort?
What does it look like after years of wear?
Even if it looks like we are making the same thing, our team reviews these small details every single time.
It feels a bit cringeworthy to write this down, and it sounds exaggerated to say that we pour our souls into every single garment, but I do hope that sentiment somehow reaches the wearer.
