BLACKBIRD “double breasted director’s jacket” (Black)

The “double breasted director’s jacket” was crafted by fusing the elements of a formal tailored jacket with those of a coverall.

This model is a sibling to the “director’s jacket,” a staple that has been featured since the brand's inception. While it retains the silhouette of its predecessor, the sleeve attachment and cuffs utilize coverall specifications rather than those of a tailored jacket. By deliberately opting for casual sewing techniques, the neat appearance of the double-breasted style is layered with the ease of workwear.
The design ensures that the fabric drapes beautifully where it falls, while creating a natural, three-dimensional look where it expands. The way wrinkles form when worn is precisely calculated through intricate patterns.

Despite having a presence that commands attention, it is remarkably comfortable to wear all day without restricting the body.

Even if it develops wrinkles from wear or transport, they simply become part of the garment’s character, allowing you to wear it daily without a second thought.

The refinement of a tailored jacket meets the functionality and approachability of a coverall—a jacket that balances these two different worlds in a way only BLACKBIRD can.

With this piece, you will never have to worry about your styling.
The sleeve construction is like that of a coverall, with a wider tube that allows you to easily slip it over thick inner layers; conversely, when worn with thinner layers, the extra space creates a very pleasing fit.
The material is from the Italian mill Lyria, a favorite of our shop owner, and we are very much looking forward to seeing how the fabric texture evolves over time.

-director’s monologue-
Just as the director’s jacket has been a classic for ten years, I felt that if I were to take on this double-breasted version, there would be no point unless I aimed for even more. This is now its third season.

In one word, the double breasted director’s jacket is a "cheat code" to me.
It pairs well with any bottom, from slim to wide, and suits anyone regardless of their build or personal style.

Actually, this item wasn't included in the 009 collection lineup. The reason is simple: I felt this one piece was enough on its own. Even though we made it ourselves, it’s a bit of a troublesome jacket.

For those of you who have been thinking about welcoming a director’s jacket into your closet, please, by all means, try the double-breasted one just once.
