DONALD JUDD FURNITURE by Donald Judd
A collection of works by American artist Donald Judd.
" The art of a chair is not about it looking like art, but about having a certain degree of rationality, usefulness, and scale as a chair ."
This book features over 100 pieces of furniture designed by the artist, created between 1970 and 1991 for his homes and workspaces in Spring Street, New York, and Presidio County, Texas. The furniture designs were first created during the renovation of his Spring Street home and studio , 101 Spring Street , and then as a result of his laborious efforts to furnish his own home in Marfa, Texas.
"The furniture designs exemplify the straightforwardness and directness of form and presence of the artist's celebrated artwork, displaying a unique functionality without decorative elements. The book features detailed drawings and a breakdown of the materials used, as well as color photographs that delve deeply into the spatial placement and function of the pieces. It not only outlines the core aspects of the pieces, but also details the artist's own understanding of his deep interest in functionality, form, and the possibilities of design in a world of mass production."
