Detail : This is a Chimayo rug that is traditionally made in Chimayo, deep in New Mexico.
Small rugs purchased locally at the workshop. All are one-of-a-kind.
Each piece was hand-woven by a craftsman, but the 20 or so craftsmen who once worked there have since retired and there are no new weavers to train, so ORTEGA'S is now run by just one president.
Production itself is becoming difficult.
It's an industry that is disappearing, so if you're interested, be sure to get one while they're still available.
